Rio Tinto's Kellie Parker has shown that women can lead the way in resource sector management, after taking home the prize for Outstanding Woman at the Women in Resources Awards.
Kellie was recognised for her exceptional achievements during her career with Rio Tinto. Many women were recognised at inaugural Women in Resources Awards 2010, which was organised by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA, and aimed to recognise individuals and organisations working to enhance the participation of women in the resources sector.
CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said Kellie is an inspiration to other women in the resources industry.
“Kellie has successfully held senior leadership roles in areas that are traditionally male dominated,” he said.
“She has been instrumental in building diversity into her teams, while maintaining her key role as manager of operations - a 24-hour full time critical position for business success.
“Kellie demonstrates an ability to exceed expectations while managing a very young family at the same time. With skills shortages highly likely in the future due to anticipated sustained growth, we need to encourage more women to explore interesting and rewarding careers available within the mining and energy sectors”.
Mr Howard-Smith congratulated everyone who participated in the CME Women in Resources Awards.
“Through their participation in the inaugural awards, individuals and companies have demonstrated a proactive approach in encouraging and supporting the attraction, selection, promotion and retention of women in the resources sector."
