Pre-strip underway at Mt Cattlin

Galaxy closer to mining

Galaxy Resources has begun pre-strip mining at its Mt Cattlin spodumene project near Ravensthorpe in Western Australia.

The four month pre-strip will guarantee the supply of ore for its processing plant which is due to come online later this year.

“Both the company and the mining contractor, Orionstone, have worked diligently to implement all elements of a business readiness plan and allow mining to begin in a timely manner,” said Galaxy managing director Iggy Tan.

“We have been particularly pleased with the ability of Orionstone to mobilise key mining equipment which is a major reason for the pre-strip commencing ahead of schedule.”

Mr Tan said by April the mine’s workforce is expected to grow to around 150 which will include a large proportion of workers from the hard hit town of Ravensthorpe and the surrounding areas.
