Premier Campbell Newman is expected to discuss north-west Queensland's uranium mining potential during his first visit as Queensland's leader to the mining city of Mount Isa.

Mr Newman lifted the state's long-running ban on uranium mining last year, saying Queensland's $10 billion worth of known uranium deposits will generate more jobs.

He will meet business and community leaders at a breakfast on Thursday before going on an underground tour of the city's biggest mine.

The premier met Mount Isa Mayor and former Labor minister Tony McGrady and local councillors on Wednesday night.
