The wife of the 46-year-old NSW prospector missing in the Northern Goldfields says she is holding out hope her husband will be found alive.

Helen Graham arrived Friday at the remote spot where Michael Keith Graham was last seen, 140km from Menzies on dirt roads.

Mr Graham’s sister Lisa Anne Dodson also arrived from New Zealand.

“The last time he called was Saturday to say he was heading out,” Mrs Graham said.

On Tuesday night she contacted the Menzies Hotel, where Mr Graham had stayed until Friday.

The owner, Dave McKenna, told her that her husband’s prospecting partner, Peter Holloway, had last seen her husband on Sunday night.

Graham was last seen at 10pm on Sunday while camping with friend Peter Holloway 70km north-east of Menzies.

When Mr Holloway woke, Mr Graham was not there. It is believed he wandered away from the camp during the night.

Sergeant Mark Mariott said Mr Graham had not left a note saying where he was going and he had no water or navigation equipment with him.

It was Mr Graham’s second trip to the Northern Goldfields after a six-week holiday in January and February last year.

Police and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will search mine shafts for Mr Graham in densely wooded ironstone country in the Goldfields.

About 20 SES volunteers from Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Leonora, Laverton, Menzies and Perth have been involved in the search.

Search crews plan to investigate several mine shafts which were found by a helicopter. Nearby mining company Norton Gold Fields Paddington Operations has provided a specialist team to help with the search.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services liaison officer Colin Brown said sniffer dogs might also be used to track the missing man.
