Rare earths miner Lynas is facing further court action against the operation of its new plant in Malaysia.

The company said the group known as Save Malaysia Stop Lynas had obtained a hearing in the Malaysian Court of Appeal on Friday.

The group will be seeking an interim stay against Lynas' licence to operate the Advanced Materials Plant in Kuantan, pending an appeal against a recent decision by the Kuantan High Court to dismiss the group's previous effort seeking an injunction.

Lynas said it understands the documents to be presented to the appeal court by the group are similar to those used in its previous, unsuccessful court actions.

The Lynas plant began production in November, after long delays caused by legal action brought by opponents to its operation, who are concerned about pollution and possible health threats.
