Two Goldfields prospectors have won one for the “little guy” after grabbing a slice of $5.9 million in State Government exploration funding.

Seeking cash alongside major producers like Silver Lake Resources, which will be valued at about $1.4 billion after its takeover of Integra Mining is complete, prospectors Edward Nybo and Christopher Potts are laughing all the way to the bank.

Both men were eligible for compensation up to $30,000 for the metres they sink into the ground in 2013 searching for the next big discovery. They were the only prospectors among 24 projects in the Goldfields-Esperance region to win funding in the Exploration Incentive Scheme’s Co-funded Drilling Program.

In the typical style of a secretive prospector, Mr Potts was playing his cards close to his chest and would not divulge any details about his Great Hope gold project in the highly-prospective Mt Monger area.

“I’d rather keep my projects private,” he said.

Mr Nybo is also on the hunt for a major gold find at his Tommies Dam South project.
