Gina Rinehart may have fought in court to keep details of her finances private but now the life of Australia's richest woman is reportedly coming to television.

Fairfax websites report Screentime, the company responsible for the highly successful Underbelly series, has secured the rights to the unauthorised biography Gina Rinehart: The untold story of the richest woman in the world.

Screentime producer Des Monaghan says Fairfax journalist Adele Ferguson, who wrote the book, will be a consultant on the production.

"We are delighted that we won the race to secure the rights to the story of Gina Rinehart and her father, who have fascinated Australia for decades," Monaghan said.
